I'm gonna forgive the fact that I didn't make it to the 40 posts in 40 days. I was out of town without internet access for a long weekend (over Memorial Day) and I thought I was very clever "blogging" in a paper journal. My super clever plan was to take pictures of the posts and post them when I got back.
So much for that. Here is stuff that has happened: work drama. There were some staff members not asked back. It was shocking to me. And then a coworker was fired. Which was also shocking. I began to fear that I would randomly be fired or laid off just because other people were. There is not really any substance to this thought, but it is human nature. And my nature. A friend was hospitalized for a time with pregnancy related complications. She is fine. But it made the last two weeks of school a bit frazzled as I scrambled to help take care of her classes and her students. I joked that I would teach a comprehensive lesson on "placenta previa" to her Level 2 ELL students. Just found out she took me seriously! Ha! I surely would have done this if her students were adults, but I am hardly interested in sharing a teacher's private medical concerns with 15 year old boys. She seemed relieved to find out that I had been kidding. Sheesh. Other stuff: Elderboy completed his 8th grade year. Found out that ALL of his friends will be attending the same high school next year. So the process was less bittersweet than it might have been. I didn't even cry at the graduation. However, I did cry a little bit (or at least get choked up) when youngerboy received an academic award for his physical education class. He was recognized for his caring for other students and his extreme civic responsibility and sportsmanship--
He is very proud of his accomplishment and I went and personally thanked the gym teachers for recognizing his caring qualities. They purposely chose students for the award who showed good character rather than those who had natural athletic ability. There is a different place for those awards, they said. Now: Last day of school commitments until 2nd full week of July when I will do some curriculum writing. Looking forward to accomplishing great things (in manageable mouthfuls) this summer. |
